A native of Illinois, Jack has live in the Deep South since 1981. Richards holds a BA in Art Education from Eastern Illinois University (’75) and an MA from the University of Illinois (’80), where he taught watercolor and life drawing in the art for architects program in The School of Architecture. While living in Savannah, he established New Forest Studios, Inc. through which he works on various projects. A founding member of The City Market Art Center, in Savannah, he also has taught 15 years K-12 art in public and private schools and 10 years Art History at Armstrong Atlantic State University. Jack taught foundations for The New York School of Visual Art’s Savannah branch for 6 years. He has won many awards, and secured grants for presenting his work. His talented use and range of materials enabled him to become a member in the Post-Modern, Society of Layerists in Multi-Media. Evocative experiments with oil and acrylic paints, digital images, found and fragmented objects and design markers on ‘crazed’ canvas surfaces are used to create sensual exotic pieces distinctly his own. Spiritual and mystical themes are the ‘mind’ behind the matter of his works. In a side venture through his studios, he created and founded The Ghost Talk Ghost Walk of Savannah and Roswell Georgia. He is still a partner with the Savannah tour and guides from time to time when he is in that city. Viewing and participating in first hand experience of agraglyphts (crop circles), achitechture, archeologial digs and world travel has played a great part in the images he shares. Jack is a painter of fine portraits and is very much influenced by the Pre-Raphaelites painters and those of the Arts and Crafts Movement. Friends, Family and Associates are often used as subject matter and images throughout the body of his work. Richards has lived in The Atlanta Metro Area since 1998 where he renders architecture mainly for projects involved with New Urbanism and for his company New Forest Studios II, LLC, which sells house plans for Traditional New Developments. His association with Andres Duany of Duany Plater-Zyberk & Company and participating in Duany’s charrettes sharpened Jack’s interest and skill in rendering New Urbanist sites. His renderings were featured in “The Street of Dreams” brochure for Tributary, a TND located in Douglasville Georgia. Richards handles all of Tributary’s marketing renderings. He presently lives in Marietta Georgia.
